The Idiot Sieve

In my years as an IT professional, from cabling through security, I have noticed a recurring phenomenon; The Idiot Sieve.

It goes a little something like this:

Start with a reasonable mixture of talented, average, and struggling team members.
Reward social interaction equally or even superior to actual results. (Toadies and bootlickers)
Fail to rectify failure and incompetence.
Pay 10 people to do 10 peoples worth of work while only 5 people are actually contributing.
Let the slackers slide.
Keep pissing off the competent and talented by coddling the fools and idiots.

Result:

The people who are good at this will go in search of a place that recognizes and rewards such things.
The idiots will have nowhere to go and no incentive to NOT be idiots.

Eventually, will sieve out the idiots and the talent will pass through to another place.

Voila!

Idiot Sieve!
